Queen of the Screwballs

In addition to some all time greats, Carole Lombard made a few bad movies. But she was as reliably charismatic and funny in the stinkers as she was in the classics. In addition to being Hollywood's highest-paid performer in the early 1940s, she hosted the town's best parties. You didn't have to be rich, famous, or powerful to get an invitation; Carole just had to think you were fun. Imagine all your favorite female performers wrapped up in one and you get some idea of her greatness.
